Flow outline
Entries from Everywhere Else
- Vol 2 lived in turtle. This volume covers every other place a back take starts.
- The four entry families.
- Standing: behind them on the feet. trip them down, then play Vol 2.
- 50-50: split the legs, come on top, dive into the crab ride.
- Half guard / deep half: under them. switch hooks, take the back from below.
- K-guard: opponent attacks your leg. counter into the crab ride.
- All four converge on one structure: the crab ride (knee behind their knee, drive their other leg to your shin) or the c-step from Vol 2.
The Crab Ride
- The shape every entry in this volume lands in.
- Shin behind their knee, knee pointing toward their body.
- Far hand catches their other leg (or hamstring), drag it onto your shin.
- Both their legs trapped over your knee.
- Extend your leg → their hip lifts → back is exposed.
- If you can name the crab ride, you can navigate the volume. Every section ends here.
Behind Them, Standing
- You're behind them on the feet. Belly grip locked, they're about to break out.
- Reads.
- Eye on the opposite side of your gripping arm. never line up with their head.
- Head close to their hip on the same side as the gripping arm.
- If they're heavy, lift won't fire. trip patterns work better.
Forearm Trip
- Lightweight version. Faster than a lift.
- Finger-to-finger grip across the belly.
- Pass the forearm of the across-arm down next to their thigh.
- Same-side ear on their lat.
- Turn into the side, drop weight onto the planted forearm.
- They land in front of you. third position from Vol 2.
Lift, Knee Chop

50-50 Bottom
- You're tied up at the legs. The lock is the figure-four. Don't open it without the underhook first or you donate your heel.
- Sequence: underhook the leg, control the toes, push them down, get the elbow under the knee.
- Then unlock the figure four, point the toes outside, scoot in close, come on top.
- Toe direction is the safety check. toes pointed at them = your heel is safe.
Come Up, Land in Crab
- You're now over the top of them, near their hip.
- Don't drop the underhook. they take the back if you do.

- Underhook from below, knee under their knee. elevator shape.
- From here you can pin inside (back take) or push them above your head.
- Elevator is the bottom-game answer when the standard come-up loses the race.
K-Guard Counter
- They're attacking your leg with K-guard. Stop the leg attack with a back take.
- Catch their far leg as it swings in.
- Drop all your weight onto them, post your hand on the mat.

- Bring your far knee behind their knee. crab ride.
- Drive their other leg to your shin, push, take the back.
- The thing they were attacking with becomes your handle for the back.

- Knee in front of their chest.
- Free hand on top of their head.
- Frame elbow inside your own thigh so they can't smash.
- When they re-post: slide the shin from biceps to elbow joint, sit up.
- Sit up with forehead pressed to their neck, deep grip on the waist.
Switch Hooks → Back
- Underhook is in. Now flip to the back side.
- Underhook the far leg.
- Switch the hooks: top hook out, bottom hook in.
- Drive the hip forward to keep them from waist-watering the knee out. crucial detail.
- Open the ankle out.
- Bring them across, end up in side-smash.

- Bring your knee close to your chest before they finish the step.
- Foot lands behind their knee.

- If the leg extends and the hook won't slot, slide your shin in front of theirs, bend the knee, then plant the hook.
Deep Half to Crucifix
- Backup line when the back take feels uncomfortable.
- Same setup through the push and frame.
- Don't open their leg with the frame. push it across instead.
