Flow outline
Kimura At Chest
- The kimura is held up at the chest with the chest glued to the opponent.
- From 10th Planet West LA (@10pwla), home of 4th degree black belt Scott Epstein, in the video "10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Secret Kimura Grip Break".
- Anchor: chest stays glued to the opponent
Avoid Tricep Crank
- Cranking on the tricep to break the grip usually doesn't work.
- Reaction: the tricep crank usually doesn't break the grip
- Option: if you're stronger, keeping the chest glued and lifting with the upper back while arching can work
- Avoid Trying to break the grip by cranking the tricep instead of dropping chest pressure.
Chest Pressure Down
- Push the hands down to the mat with chest pressure to weaken the grip.
- The idea Pushing the hands down with the chest turns a strong grip into a weak one.
- Pressure: chest drives the hands down to the mat
- Reaction: the grip becomes very weak once pushed down
- Reaction: pushing down almost wrist locks the far hand
Rip Body Right
- With the grip weakened, rip the body to the right to break it.
- Timing: rip only after the grip is weak with no resistance
- Direction: rip the body to the right
- Reaction: with the hands pushed down, they can only resist in one direction
- Key detail Rip the body to the right once the grip is weak.
Sit Up 90 Degrees
- Sit up to posture and keep the arm at a 90-degree angle.
- Checkpoint: sit up to posture after ripping
- Angle: keep the arm at a 90-degree angle
Gable Grip Defense
- The opponent defends with a gable grip and protects the arm.
- Grip: opponent uses a gable grip to defend
Drop Chest Wrist Flip
- Drop the chest way down, then flip the wrist out explosively upward.
- Entry: drop the chest way down first
- Finish: flip the wrist out explosively upward
- Angle: keep it in that 90-degree angle
Branch conditions
- if you try to crank the tricep
- instead drop chest pressure down
- once the grip is weak rip right
- then sit up and keep 90 degrees
- if they lock a gable grip instead
- drop chest then flip wrist out
