IBJJF gi weight classes (adult and master)

IBJJF prints its own pound limits, and they aren't exact conversions of the kilograms (64 kg is listed as 141.6 lb, not 141.1). US events weigh in pounds, so use the pound column there.

At No-Gi Worlds, Pans, and Europeans, juvenile males split into Juvenile 1 (16) and Juvenile 2 (17). Juvenile 2 uses the no-gi male column above. Juvenile 1 runs lighter, from Rooster at 103.0 lb (46.5 kg) up to Super Heavy at 180.0 lb (81.5 kg). The calculator shows both.
IBJJF age divisions
Your age for the whole season is the year of the event minus your birth year. Someone born in 1990 competes as 36 all of 2026, even before their birthday. Masters can also enter younger master divisions and adult.
| Division | Age in the event year |
|---|---|
| Mighty Mite 1 to 3 | 4 to 6 |
| Pee Wee 1 to 3 | 7 to 9 |
| Junior 1 to 3 | 10 to 12 |
| Teen 1 to 3 | 13 to 15 |
| Juvenile 1 and 2 | 16 and 17 |
| Adult | 18 and up |
| Master 1 | 30 and up |
| Master 2 | 36 and up |
| Master 3 | 41 and up |
| Master 4 | 46 and up |
| Master 5 | 51 and up |
| Master 6 | 56 and up |
| Master 7 | 61 and up |
Kids divisions (Mighty Mite to Teen) have their own weight limits for each birth year. Check the kids weight chart on your event's page.
How IBJJF weigh-ins work
- You weigh in once, right before your first match, in the uniform you compete in.
- There is one attempt and no allowance. Miss weight and you're disqualified from the division.
- The open class has no weight limit. Who can enter it, usually medalists and adult black belts, is set on each event page.
ADCC weight classes
ADCC is no-gi. The World Championship and Trials use five men's and three women's classes. ADCC Opens use more classes, with both kilogram and pound limits.
| Event | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| World Championship and Trials | -66, -77, -88, -99, +99 kg | -55, -65, +65 kg |
| ADCC Opens, adult and masters | -55, -60, -65, -70, -76, -83, -91, -100, +100 kg | -50, -55, -60, -65, -70, -75, -80, +80 kg |
| ADCC Opens in pounds | 121, 132, 143, 154, 168, 183, 201, 220, over 221 lb | 110, 121, 132, 143, 154, 165, 176, over 176 lb |
ADCC counts your age on the first day of the tournament, not by birth year like IBJJF. The World Championship limits are printed as 65.9, 76.9, 87.9, and 98.9 kg.

Frequently asked questions
What are the IBJJF weight classes?
Adult men in the gi: Rooster 127 lb (57.5 kg), Light Feather 141.6 lb (64 kg), Feather 154.6 lb (70 kg), Light 168 lb (76 kg), Middle 181.6 lb (82.3 kg), Medium Heavy 195 lb (88.3 kg), Heavy 208 lb (94.3 kg), Super Heavy 222 lb (100.5 kg), and Ultra Heavy with no limit. Women's gi classes run from Rooster at 107 lb (48.5 kg) to Super Heavy with no limit.
Does IBJJF weigh you with the gi on?
Yes. Gi divisions weigh in wearing the gi you compete in, right before your first match. Weigh yourself in that gi when you check your weight.
Are IBJJF no-gi weight classes different?
Yes. No-gi limits are lower because there's no gi on the scale. An adult male Light is 162.6 lb (73.5 kg) in no-gi against 168 lb (76 kg) in the gi.
How does IBJJF decide my age division?
By birth year. Your age is the event year minus your birth year, so you move up on January 1, not on your birthday. Master 1 starts at 30, Master 2 at 36, then every five years up to Master 7 at 61.
Is there a weight allowance at IBJJF?
No. You get one attempt on the official scale before your first match, and missing weight disqualifies you from the division.
What are the ADCC weight classes?
At the World Championship and Trials: men -66, -77, -88, -99, and +99 kg, women -55, -65, and +65 kg. ADCC Opens add more classes: men from -55 to +100 kg and women from -50 to +80 kg.
