Single Leg Defense from Guard

Defending single leg takedowns from the bottom. Early recognition, whizzer mechanics, & late defense options to keep guard & prevent the pass.

Flow outline

  1. Single Leg Defense

    • If they frame, the foundation of staying safe when they shoot for that single leg. from here, recognize whether 're in early or late defense and choose path based on their head position
  2. Early Defense

    • Once set, they're just starting their shot - is where have the most options. can either keep hands unlocked for mobility or lock them up for maximum control, depending on how much time have
  3. Down To Knee

    • Key detail: getting that knee down creates a solid base. from here, can either block their groin access or grab their opposite ankle to disrupt their balance and create space. don’t force it
  4. Whizzer

    • Usually The classic overhook defense. Once set the whizzer, can put weight on their head to control their posture, then transition to more advanced controls
  5. Sprawl Control

    • Most of the time The full sprawl position - 've sprawled, popped down their arm, and posted. gives us two strong options: taking their back on either the weak or strong side, depending on how they react. Switch if it stalls
  6. Elbow Control

    • Once set, quick note: grabbing and raising their elbow while arching and circling creates tremendous leverage. movement naturally leads to back takes on either side as disrupt their base
  7. Late Defense

    • They're deep on the shot - time is limited. have multiple tools here: shin to thigh for immediate defense, raptor whizzer for advanced control, eye contact for posture disruption, or wrist control to stop their progress. Don’t force it
  8. Chin Strap

    • Getting that chin strap control is gold. Once have it, can square up hips and create the space needed to work guard game or stand up
  9. Standup

    • Most of the time Sometimes the best defense is getting back to feet. From various control positions, can create enough space and leverage to stand back up and reset the engagement
  10. Funk Roll

    • From here, the beautiful funk roll - when they have head outside position, can use rolling escape to come out on top or at least create enough chaos to recover guard
