Back Escapes
- From here, often the foundational starting point when caught in back control. focus on establishing defensive collar and sleeve grips to prevent the opponent from securing dominant control
Rear Naked Choke Defense
- Critical defense against the rear naked choke. Utilize collar grips to control the choking arm while maintaining sleeve control to prevent the opponent from finishing the submission. Angle matters
Thumb Post Escape
- Traditional escape when the opponent's hands are over your chin. Use thumb posts against the opponent's wrists while maintaining sleeve control to create space and disrupt their grip
Limp Arm Escape
- If they frame, usually essential technique when the opponent traps your arm with their leg. relax the trapped arm while using your free hand to control the opponent's collar, then rotate your hips to create an escape path. timing beats strength
Overhook Side Control
- Transition position achieved by establishing an overhook on one side while controlling the opponent's collar. Use position to begin escaping to side control or half guard
Underhook Side Control
- From here, strong transitional position with an underhook established while maintaining collar control. leverage to escape to top positions or create space for further escapes
Headlock Escape
- If it shows up, Traditional escape from headlock situations. Control the opponent's collar and sleeve while using hip movement to create space and transition to a more favorable position
Elbow Cut
- precise technique to cut the elbow through and set top control. keep collar and sleeve grips throughout the movement to ensure proper control during the transition
Top Closed Guard
- The ultimate goal position after successful escapes. From top closed guard, set dominant collar and sleeve grips to control the opponent and begin your offensive game. Switch if it stalls
