S-mount Submissions
Getting to S-mount & staying there while hunting finishes. Covers the setup, weight distribution, & what's available once you're locked in.
Flow outline
Establish S-Mount Position
- Secure S-mount by controlling one arm and positioning legs in an S-shape around the opponent's torso.
- Place one knee up by opponent's head to control upper body
- Wrap other leg around opponent's torso to create S-shaped leg configuration
- Control opponent's near arm to prevent underhook escapes
Weight Distribution Options
- Adjust weight placement based on partner size and training intensity to maintain control without excessive pressure.
- For drilling or smaller partners, distribute weight through knee to reduce chest pressure
- For maximum control, sit directly on sternum with forward lean
- Option to shift weight toward diaphragm for increased discomfort and control
Standard Arm Bar Setup
- Set up arm bar by isolating opponent's arm and creating proper leverage points while maintaining upright posture.
- Gather opponent's arm tight to chest with wrist control
- Maintain upright posture to prevent escape opportunities
- Use free hand for base and stability during setup
- Apply pressure by leaning forward and pushing with hips
Enhanced Arm Bar Control
- Increase arm bar control through leg positioning variations that limit opponent movement.
- Slide shin over opponent's face to restrict head movement
- Tuck leg under opponent's head for maximum control (difficult to achieve)
- Squeeze knees together to compress opponent's torso
Alternative Submission Options
- Transition to kimura or wrist lock when standard arm bar setup is unavailable due to grip or arm position.
- Reach through with free hand to isolate trapped arm
- Control opponent's elbow while sliding hand to wrist for kimura
- Maintain arm bar control as backup option while setting up kimura
Opponent Throws to Side
- Maintain submission control when opponent attempts to roll or throw you to either side.
- Post free hand to maintain base during throw attempt
- Keep controlled arm tight to body throughout movement
- Bring leg through to maintain hip alignment with opponent
- Ensure hips face downward to maintain pressure during transition
Arm Bar from Side Position
- Execute arm bar from side control position when thrown or when transitioning for comfort.
- Maintain solid hand base on mat for stability
- Position hips over opponent's torso to maintain control
- Keep controlled arm tight tucked by opponent's wrist
Omoplata Transition Setup
- Transition to omoplata submission as opponent attempts to roll you over to escape.
- Slide leg over opponent's arm during their roll attempt
- Land with hips controlling opponent's butt to prevent further rolling
- Position feet pointing away from opponent for proper leverage
Omoplata Control and Finish
- Secure omoplata position and apply controlled pressure to submit opponent while maintaining safety.
- Lock opponent's hand in hip pocket for shoulder control
- Lie on top of opponent to restrict movement
- Apply slow, controlled pressure by moving forward as if whispering in ear
- Carefully disentangle after submission to avoid injury
Branch conditions
- when adjusting pressure based on partner size or training intensity
- after securing S-mount with proper leg positioning and arm control
- when needing additional control by restricting opponent's head movement
- if opponent's grip prevents standard arm bar setup or arm is trapped
- when opponent attempts to roll or throw you to either side
- after posting hand and maintaining arm control during throw attempt
- as opponent rolls you over and you slide leg over their arm
- once leg is positioned over arm and hips control opponent's butt
