Flow outline

  1. Closed Guard Kimura Trap

    • Start the sequence from closed guard with the kimura trap, opening the position and breaking posture.
    • From Adele Fornarino (@adelefornarino), 2x ADCC World champion (-55kg and absolute), in the video "Best Options from Closed Guard: Chaining It All Together".
    • Entry: open up the position from closed guard
    • Posture: break the posture
  2. Opponent Hands To Mat

    • Opponent puts hands to the mat, so slap to come up and drive on top.
    • Reaction: partner posts the hands on the mat
    • Entry: slap to come up and drive on top
  3. Opponent Drives Heavy

    • Opponent counters by driving in heavy, which gives a postural break.
    • Reaction: she drives in really heavy
    • Checkpoint: the heavy drive gives you the posture break
  4. Armbar Sequencing

    • Control posture, connect to head, isolate arm, foot to hip, cut angle, and start armbar sequencing.
    • Grip: control the posture and connect to the head
    • Anchor: isolate the arm
    • Frame: foot to the hip
    • Angle: cut your angle
    • Finish: start the armbar sequence
  5. Triangle Position

    • If your hips are loose on the armbar or they yank the arm out, open the left leg to the other side of the head and trap the triangle.
    • Reaction: your hips get loose or you forget to bite down on the head
    • Reaction: partner yanks the arm out
    • Leg Path: open your left leg and put it to the other side of the head
    • Checkpoint: bite down, trap the triangle and work toward the finish
    • Avoid Flailing and panicking when the armbar slips.
  6. Omoplata Transition

    • If they duck the hand around your hip on the triangle, frame the head, connect the tricep, get off the center line and bring the foot over the head, then connect the hip, pull to the side and finish.
    • Reaction: partner ducks the hand around your hip
    • Frame: frame the head
    • Grip: connect the tricep
    • Angle: pull off the center line
    • Leg Path: bring your foot over the head, pump and kick
    • Hips: connect the hip and pull it to the side
    • Finish: small burnouts, then finish
  7. Closed Guard Sweep Chain

    • From closed guard, think about going forward and back, left and right constantly to sweep, using opponent's reactions.
    • Entry: keep going forward and back, left and right
    • Reaction: your partner can't defend every direction all the time
    • Reaction: break the posture down and pull, and they start fighting back
  8. Flower Sweep

    • As they push back, come up and bump them backwards. If they drive in as hard as they can, grab it and hit the flower sweep.
    • Reaction: partner keeps pushing back
    • Entry: come up and bump them backwards
    • Timing: the bump can be your window to take them over the top
    • Reaction: partner drives in as hard as possible
    • Finish: grab it and hit the flower sweep
  9. Scissor Sweep

    • If they start to back off during the flower sweep, connect, get your legs set and hit the scissor sweep.
    • Reaction: partner starts backing off a little
    • Entry: connect and get your legs set
    • Finish: hit the scissor sweep
